Courses at CSUB

Below are some of the courses I have taught frequently at CSUB, building much of the curriculum and activities from scratch. Contact me if you have questions about any aspects of these courses!

GEOL 1209: Natural Disasters

A general education course covering a wide range of hazards: earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, hurricanes, wildfires, landslides, climate change, and more!

GEOL 1209 students work on a simulated hurricane evacuation

GEOL 2010: Physical Geology

Also known as Intro to Geology. A required course for geology majors that introduces them to a broad spectrum of physical, chemical, and biological aspects of Earth Science.

GEOL 2010 students work on a simulated mapping exercise

GEOL 3090: Geophysics

Introduction to geophysical principles, including physical processes in the Earth and geophysical measurement techniques.

GEOL 3090 students measure gravity in the stairwell
GEOL 3090 students measure distances on a globe
GEOL 3090 students generate seismic waves in refraction experiment

GEOL 4030: Lithospheric Geodynamics

Physical processes acting in Earth's lithosphere applied to fundamental plate boundary systems, including plate motions, seismic waves, rheology, heat flow, isostasy, flexure, and more!
